Who we are
Lockyer Regional Performing Arts Inc is the Lockyer Valley’s community theatre group, creating performance opportunities in regional southeast Queensland for more than 25 years. Our vision is to provide affordable, live theatre to the Lockyer Valley. We pride ourselves on fostering a supportive and nurturing environment for theatre-makers to learn, develop, and flourish.
We love to surprise and delight our patrons with lively and entertaining shows. From major musicals to literary classics, favourite fairytales to side-splitting comedies, our audiences leave the theatre with a smile on their faces and a spring in their step.
We stage two productions per calendar year. Every second year is a musical, open to all ages and abilities. In alternate years we stage a Puddlejumpers production, a youth play for actors under 18 years. Our musicals and Puddlejumper productions have large casts, providing plenty of opportunities for performers. We also stage a play each year. This is for a smaller cast of adults and older teens and provides an opportunity for actors to extend themselves. Performances are staged at the Gatton Shire Hall or the Laidley Cultural Centre, with rehearsals in Gatton or Laidley.
The Puddlejumpers, formed by life member Godfrey Bathurst, caters for children and teens to provide them with specialised opportunities to develop their performance skills, build confidence, and learn what is involved in staging a show. We welcome families and children of all backgrounds to come and experience the magic of theatre with us.
If you are interested in auditioning, check out our Audition page for upcoming productions. Here is where we publish our audition packs which contain all you need to know, including how to register your interest, time commitments, and what’s involved in being part of a show. a short history of lrpa
In November 1997, six people met in the Community Hall at Glenore Grove to talk about the options of starting a theatre company in Laidley.
After sending out flyers etc, another meeting was held in the Uniting Church Hall in Laidley in May 1998 at which approx. 20 people attended. At this meeting a committee was formed, and so Laidley Performing Arts prepared for their first performance, which was “How The West Was Warped”. This performance was put on at the Laidley Cultural Centre.
The company held their rehearsals in the Uniting Church Hall Laidley. Gillian Carpenter was our first Director. The company also did a performance in the Uniting Church Hall.
Eventually, the company moved to Laidley Cultural Centre. When Gatton and Laidley Shire Councils amalgamated, the name was changed to LOCKYER REGIONAL PERFORMING ARTS. Some years later in 2018, the company become a Not For Profit incorporated entity.
